The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Consider this a dare for long-term couples who enjoy the horror genre: Get comfortable with your partner and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its online premiere on the Hulu service. On the surface, it could look like standard physical horror, but beneath Together exists a profound contemplation about our choices in loving each other.

A Directorial Debut Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together is the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have remained a couple for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the actors infuse a special spark to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The plot begins when Tim and Millie relocate from the urban environment to the country for her career. A familiar plot device, sure, but that’s mostly where the conventions end. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a body horror flick.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While walking near their country house, a storm hits, and the protagonists tumble into an underground cave. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity takes hold of the couple. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The complete narrative is a methodically building horror experience, weaving in moments of fever-dream horrors, gross (but never too gross) physical transformations, and authentically humorous exchanges (sometimes amidst something disturbing). The director weaves these elements together seamlessly and presents them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his hesitance to pursue anything but his failing musical ambitions inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and removed from his support system. He is terrified of the concept of completely losing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is further exacerbated by the reality he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for transportation.

Shanks’ smartest move in Together refrains from painting one partner or the other the obvious villain.

The couple face the sort of issues that arise in any relationship a decade in. Deep down, they have affection for one another. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and open up at times. But beneath it all, there’s an persistent undercurrent of doubt about their future together.

Allegory and Meaning

While the paranormal elements in Together act as a metaphor for these anxieties of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the symbolism never feels clumsy or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has left audiences divided on the movie's final takeaway about unhealthy partnerships. Accounts suggest that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a strong argument for staying single. Meanwhile, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own reaction could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion inspire feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you recognize your own traits in Tim or Millie and feel frustration, or simply look at your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on the streaming service Hulu as of this moment.
